The Beloved's Archery

Beloved Meher Baba

O Meher! The arrow You shot which pierced my heart reached its mark in me.
And now I've become a restless target of Your beloved archery!

O Beloved!  How is it I worship this arrow you shot from Your sacred bow?
Because the love I feel as it pierces my heart makes my head bend low!

O Beloved!  May this stormy sea You've whipped up drown this love-mad soul!
And send him spinning in dizzy torrents straight to the one real Goal!

O brothers!  Feel free to say anything you like about me.  Please don't hesitate!
The truth in what you say sets me free.  So don't procrastinate!

O Beloved!  The song You make me sing with fire has real power to inspire!
It is composed of notes of flame dipped in the ink of Meher's Name!

O John!  Cry if you want and say what you will.
But silence is sweetest if the Beloved you would thrill.

Translation by Adi K. Irani
Teree soorat say kisee ke nahee miltee soorat
Hum jaha may teree tusveer liyay firtay hay
Your face is so matchless it cannot be compared with any other face
I take your picture wherever I go in the world and I find this.
Nakashaa tera dilkash hai
Soorat teree pyaree hai
Your form is very attractive and
Your face is very loving.
Mohabbat may ab itnee dilkashee mayhasoos kartaa hoo
Toomharee hur jagah maujoodagee mayhasoos kartaa hoo
I’m experiencing so much attraction in my love for You
That I feel Your presence everywhere.
Mere sake yakeene mera imaa kar deeyaa mohakam
Hur ek jarre may teree roshanee mehasoos kartaa hoo
My faith has made my honesty manifest
In every particle I feel your Light.
Ye mujhko konasee manzil may lay aayaa too meraa
Hur ek soorat may soorat aapakee mehasoos kartaa hoo
I do not know to what state You have brought me
That in every face I see Your face.
Hazaare mazmayay khoobanay maahaaroo hogaa
Nigaah jis pay taharee jayegee who too hogaa
There are thousands of people in the love gathering longing for You
But only he will become You upon whom Your glance will fall.
Jisnay bhee toojhay dekhaa sow baar soohaanee hay
Kyaa paysh karoo toomko kyaa cheez humaree hay
Whoever sees You beholds hundreds of beauties
What should I present You with?  What is there which belongs to me?
Dilko jigar ko jaan ko maraa karengay hum
Teree salaamatee ka hootaaraa karengay hum.
I shall go on self-denying my heart and my mind.
For Your happiness I shall sacrifice everything.
Ye dil bhee toomhaaraa hay
Ye jaan bhee toomhaaree hay
This is the heart which belongs to you
This is the life which belongs to You.

Humko Meeta Sakay

Translated by Adi K Irani
Humko meeta sakay, zamaanay may dum nahee, dum nahee
(The world does not have the strength to destroy me)
Humsay zamaanaa khud hay, zamaanay say hum nahee.
(I am not for the world, the world is for me.)
Bayfaida aalam nahee, baykaar gham nahee
(The world is not without any purpose, my pain of longing is not useless.)
Taukir day khuda ko yaya, ehamat bhee kum nahee
(I should be thankful to God that whatever pain of longing He has given it is not less than any happiness in the world.)
Mayree zubah pay shikuwa-e, ehalay seetum nahee
(I do not have any complaints against the torture you give me.)
Moojko jagaa diyaa yahee, e-hasaan kum nahee
(It is not your small obligation that you have awakened me from my involvement in illusion.)
Shikkwaa to ek chayl hay, laykeen hakeekatun
(My complaint is there, but in truth …)
Tera seetum bhee teri, inaayat se kum nahee
(Whatever tribulation and torture you make me pass through it is not less than Your Grace.)
Markay Jigar pay kyu teri, ankhay hay ashkaray
(When Jigar died why were you shedding tears?
Eksaa neeha sahee magar, itnaa bahum nahee.
(It may be right that you are always hidden but I’m not so confused to think like that.)
